Laurie helps lead the Islander Institute, a civic enterprise with the mission of instituting island values in the way we address systemic problems in Hawaiʻi. Her work with Islander Institute includes overseeing the Islander Scholars program, a one-of-a-kind honor for public high school juniors who demonstrate island values. She also helps organize a cohort of social entrepreneurs in Hawaiʻi in partnership with Consuelo Foundation. Laurie has devoted most of her life to lifting up the voices of everyday people, first as a journalist for the then-Honolulu Star-Bulletin and now as a community organizer. She also has experience in politics and government, serving as the Press Secretary for the 2010 campaign of Governor Neil Abercrombie and later as the Deputy Communications Director in the Office of the Governor. Laurie believes that building power within our communities is the key to living up to our values as a society.
Jon is an Investment Associate Director at the Kamehameha Schools, responsible for the $10 billion endowment’s private equity and venture capital portfolios. Over the past 15 years, he has worked to build Kamehameha’s private equity program from less than $150 million in assets to a globally diversified portfolio today valued at $1.1 billion, including over $330 million invested in venture capital funds. Jon represents the endowment on numerous limited partner advisory committees and has played a key role in initiatives aimed at promoting linkages between the funds in which Kamehameha invests and the Hawaii startup community. Prior to joining Kamehameha, Jon served in various corporate finance roles at C. Brewer and Co., Ltd. and Aramark Corporation. He is a proud graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa and The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Dan is the CEO of Ikayzo, a software development and interactive design firm servicing customers including Sony, Nomura, PIMCO, Oracle and the federal government. He is also the Chairman and cofounder of Contix, an Ikayzo spin-out that provides social media analytics for finance customers. Dan is the coauthor of the latest edition of O’Reilly’s Learning Java, one of the most widely read books on the world’s most popular enterprise programming language. Previously, Dan served as SVP of R&D for ValueCommerce, Asia’s largest web advertising platform, Global Head of Development for London-based LastMinute.com, Europe’s largest B2C website, and President of the US division of DML. Daniel has extensive experience managing teams of 150+ developers and designers in five countries. He has served on numerous advisory boards and panels for companies such as Macromedia and Sun Microsystems. He is active in the open source community and is involved in the standardization of numerous mobile, desktop and enterprise technology standards.
Keola Nakaʻahiki Rapozo’s design resume is incredibly diverse and well-rounded. He’s designed for multiple entities in various industries, including streetwear (Black Scale, FITTED), fashion labels (Tori Richard, Esoteric), skate (Vans, Blue Hawaii Surf, APB, Element, DGK), surf (Hurley, Kamehameha Surf Team, Kekoa Cazimero, Zak Noyle), footwear (Vans, Element, Under Armour), as well as package design for various companies. His design knowledge spans from large branding projects with Hawaiian Airlines to building art installation with POW! WOW! Hawaii and boat art installation with The Pacific Voyaging Society (Hikianalia). Not limited to graphic design, Keola’s also completed several interior design projects, including offices design concepts (Hawaiian Airlines, FITTED warehouse), restaurants (The Whole Ox, Prima), and salons (HMB). He is driven by passion and a strong commitment to exceed standard expectations, as evident in his 10 years as co-founder and creative director at FITTED. His inspirations include architecture, furniture design, clothing design, art, literature, pop culture, travel, cars, and most importantly the rich Hawaiian culture that he embraces and fuses into everything he does.
