Process

  1. Read the Overview of the Purple Prize competition.
  2. Read the Criteria to ensure that your idea fits what this competition seeks to encourage. You can also read some of the submitted ideas (View Dropdown options on Concept Form on Navigation bar).
    • If you have further questions, email us at kokua[at]purplemaia.org or attend any one of our informational sessions (see Home page).
  3. Attend the Purple Prize Kick-Off Day on March 25, 2017.
  4. Fill out the Concept Form to submit ideas or concepts; existing prototypes and deployed technologies (hardware or software) are not eligible. However, new ideas that build on existing work, which introduces a new element of significant value as per the Criteria are eligible.
    • Interested folks who are submitting ideas will need to briefly describe how their concept is Creative, Bold, (potentially) Useful to Many, and Pono
  5. Submissions that pass the criteria will be asked to present the concept at the Demo Day in September; all other submissions will not be invited to attend to the Launch Day.
  6. Invited submissions or teams will engage in a discussion with the panel of jurors and come up with ideas on proof points for each Criteria component as it relates to their concept.
  7. Teams will work to develop their concept over the course of the summer, returning in the Fall for Hōʻike or Demo Day.
  8. Official rules and deadlines will be announced at Launch Day on May 28th.
